ETRO recently completed the 44,000-square-foot expansion of the University of British Columbia’s Beaty Biodiversity Centre. The project adds a six-storey facility that enhances both the Biodiversity Research Centre and the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, providing new research and meeting spaces that support UBC’s world-leading environmental research initiatives.

Designed to achieve LEED Gold Certification, the expansion prioritizes sustainability and occupant wellbeing. It features bird-friendly patterned glazing, a pollinator garden planted with native species, and optimized systems for thermal comfort and indoor air quality. The expansion also includes extensive museum storage, enabling the Centre to qualify as an official BC fossil repository.

“The new, state-of-the-art space will further strengthen UBC’s expertise in advancing biodiversity knowledge to drive positive environmental change across British Columbia, Canada, and the world,” said UBC President Benoit-Antoine Bacon.
