UBC BEATY BIODIVERSITY CENTRE ADDITION
size: 44,000 sf
Value: $32,000,000
UBC’s Beaty Biodiversity Centre grew with a new six-storey addition built to support research, teaching and the next generation of biodiversity work. The expansion adds labs, classrooms, offices and flexible collaboration space, along with specialized museum storage that allows the Centre to serve as an official BC fossil repository. Targeting LEED Gold, the project also incorporates bird-friendly glazing, native pollinator planting and high-performance building systems. It continues ETRO’s long-standing relationship with UBC.
Building new space into a dense, fully operational part of campus made coordination the real challenge. ETRO used extensive pre-construction planning, field verification and VDC modelling to resolve tight service conditions, complex tie-ins and evolving design requirements before they became bigger issues on site. The result is a highly coordinated addition that expands UBC’s research capacity while keeping the surrounding campus working throughout construction.
