UBC’s South Campus Work Yard is getting a major infrastructure rethink across three active operational sites. ETRO is delivering the multi-phase redevelopment of the Warehouse Yard, Materials Recovery Facility and Nursery Road, with upgrades spanning refuelling infrastructure, EV and CNG charging, material bays, wash facilities, underground services and a new bi-directional weigh scale. The work is designed to support UBC’s evolving campus operations while improving how these critical service areas function day to day.

The catch: none of the sites can simply shut down while construction happens. ETRO is using detailed phasing and logistics planning to maintain safe access, protect vehicle movement and keep operations running around the work, while also accounting for sustainability priorities like minimizing tree loss and managing stormwater responsibly. The result is infrastructure built for long-term campus use without putting current operations on pause.
