BROAD ST HOTEL REDEVELOPMENT

A historic downtown Victoria building is being reworked for a completely new life as an eight-storey Hyatt-branded hotel. In a joint venture partnership with Durwest Construction, ETRO is transforming the Broad and Johnson property into a 167-room hospitality destination that pairs contemporary guest spaces and amenities with the character of the original building. The project will add a fresh hotel offering to the heart of the city while keeping its history firmly in the picture.

The challenge is balancing two very different demands: preserving what makes the building worth keeping while adapting it to meet the needs of a modern global hotel brand. The project team is carefully integrating heritage elements with new construction, building systems and hospitality requirements rather than treating the existing structure as a blank slate. The result will give an important downtown building a new purpose without erasing the story already built into it.
