Din Tai Fung

Din Tai Fung’s Canadian debut called for a flagship with the same precision as the food it serves. ETRO transformed the second floor of 1132 Alberni Street into an immersive restaurant centred around a floor-to-ceiling glass dumpling kitchen, where guests can watch the brand’s signature Xiao Long Bao being made. Chinese Zen garden influences carry through the space in curved millwork, stone, custom lighting and layered architectural finishes.

Behind the calm, highly detailed interior was a dense and technical build. ETRO joined early in pre-construction, working with the client, design team and trades to coordinate complex kitchen systems, specialty finishes and internationally sourced equipment that had to meet Canadian code and certification requirements.

The finished flagship brought Din Tai Fung’s global experience to Vancouver with exacting craft and earned a 2026 VRCA Silver Award for General Contractor - Tenant Improvement, $10M to 30M.
