MURO (BERKELEY) TOWER

SIZE: 73,000 SF
Value: $25,000,000
COMPLETION: 2022

As the first residential high-rise tower in the West End, the iconic Berkeley Tower has enjoyed expansive views of English Bay from its location on the corner of Davie and Denman since its construction in 1958.

Rather than tearing down this historic building, the 16-storey tower went under extensive abatement and a complete gut of all existing finishes and services, and will be seismically upgraded. Working within tight site constraints, ETRO employed the use of a DOC hoist - the first to be used in Western Canada - allowing the project to gain efficiencies by using the hoist rather than the elevators to move materials directly from the street into the building.

Completed in the fall of 2022, Muro (Berkeley) Tower houses additional commercial rental units, larger floor to ceiling window openings, all new interior finishes, and a new mural on the exterior by renowned artist, Douglas Coupland.

It has been a pleasure working with Mike and his team both for precon and construction. Their work has been diligent, thorough and timely for precon, and similar for construction. A differentiator is that it remains a cooperative process working with ETRO, vs. some other contractors who end up with a more adversarial approach once underway. ETRO is a growing company committed to the construction business, and I recommend them for upcoming work.
