SELF-PERFORM CARPENTER
THE ROLE
Compass Point Contracting is a dedicated self-perform company working in close partnership with ETRO Construction to execute key scopes—like carpentry and labor—using its own crews. By self-performing select trades, we maintain tighter control over cost, schedule, and quality, especially on scopes that are often underserved by the traditional subcontractor market. As a Self-Perform Carpenter, you’ll be at the forefront of delivering those scopes with precision and pride.
In this role, you'll construct, install, and repair structures and fixtures on-site, ensuring high-quality work that aligns with our standards. You'll help us maintain tighter control over cost, schedule, and quality—especially in areas where traditional subcontractors often fall short. This is a hands-on role ideal for a skilled carpenter who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and takes ownership of every cut, joint, and finish.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Here’s what you’ll do to as a Carpenter:
Execute on-site carpentry tasks including formwork, framing, finish work, blocking, and backing
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
Prepare sites for construction including layout, excavation, form setting, and concrete pouring
Use and maintain a variety of tools, equipment, and materials
Participate in daily safety meetings and follow WorkSafeBC standards
Collaborate with site supervisors and team members to coordinate tasks and resolve issues
Help manage and store materials and ensure clean, organized work areas
Mentor apprentices and support labourers to help grow team capabilities
Plan tasks, prioritize deadlines, and contribute to the successful delivery of self-perform scopes
WHO YOU ARE
If we were to ask, people would describe you as:
A detail-oriented builder who takes pride in getting it done right the first time
A team player who communicates clearly and shows up ready to work
A problem-solver with a strong work ethic and positive attitude
Focused on safety, quality, and supporting your teammates
Comfortable jumping in to help where needed—no task too big or small
Motivated to keep learning, improving, and building your craft
SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
On top of your passion to work in a growing business full of professionals in the trade, here’s what we’re looking for:
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in self-perform or commercial carpentry
Strong skills in framing, formwork, finish carpentry, and general construction
Certified Journeyman Carpenter or equivalent non-ticketed experience preferred
Ability to read construction drawings and layout plans
Familiarity with construction tools, app-based software, and digital communication tools
Knowledge of WorkSafeBC safety standards and job site compliance
Ability to travel to project sites across the Lower Mainland
OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU
Our priority is our people; creating an environment where our team members, external contractors and even our clients can thrive. Here’s what we offer to make sure every Compass Point Contracting team member is taken care of:
