SELF-PERFORM PROJECT MANAGER

THE ROLE

Compass Point Contracting is a dedicated self-perform company working in close partnership with ETRO Construction to execute key scopes—like carpentry and labor—using its own crews. By self-performing select trades, we maintain tighter control over cost, schedule, and quality, especially on scopes that are often underserved by the traditional subcontractor market.

We’re looking for a driven and detail-oriented Project Manager for Compass Point Contracting to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of the self-perform scopes on construction projects. You’ll oversee key trades, including carpentry and labor, manage self-perform budgets and schedules, and ensure our work meets high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

In this role, you’ll collaborate with Superintendents, Coordinators, and clients to align resources and proactively address risks. You’ll lead site meetings, track project performance, and help build a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. If you thrive in a hands-on role, enjoy leading field teams, and take pride in delivering top-tier work—we want to hear from you.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Here’s what you’ll do to as the Self-Perform Project Manager:

  • Develop and manage detailed work plans for self-perform scopes (carpentry, concrete, etc.)

  • Coordinate labour, materials, equipment, and field supervision

  • Lead take-offs and estimating during preconstruction and project phases

  • Monitor cost, productivity, and progress to ensure alignment with budget and schedule

  • Ensure execution meets drawings, specifications, and quality/safety standards

  • Lead project meetings with internal teams and external partners

  • Manage changes in scope and pricing with consultants and clients

  • Mentor field supervisors, carpenters, and laborers, fostering a strong team culture

  • Support onboarding and training of Project Coordinators

  • Oversee site safety initiatives, inspections, and toolbox talks

  • Promote continuous improvement and share lessons learned post-project

WHO YOU ARE

If we were to ask, people would describe you as:

  • A proactive leader who thrives in the field and brings out the best in your team

  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and accountability

  • Focused on safety, quality, and effective communication

  • A hands-on problem solver who looks for smarter, faster ways to work

  • Curious, collaborative, and committed to learning and improvement

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

On top of your passion to work in a growing business full of professionals in the trade, here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field

  • 5 to 7 years of construction project management experience (self-perform experience preferred)

  • Experience working for a General Contractor on commercial construction projects

  • Demonstrated success in overseeing multiple concurrent projects.

  • Strong knowledge of construction drawings, specs, and self-perform work methods

  • Proficient with Procore, CMiC, Bluebeam, MS Project, and Google Workspace

  • Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and field teams

  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and stakeholder coordination skills

OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU

Our priority is our people; creating an environment where our team members, external contractors and even our clients can thrive. Here’s what we offer to make sure every Compass Point Contracting team member is taken care of:

  • Opportunities for professional development, training, and mentorship

  • A strong safety culture and a high-performing team environment

  • A commitment to quality work—and celebrating success along the way

  • And yes...full time work, comprehensive benefits, and competitive pay, too.
