SENIOR ESTIMATOR

 

THE ROLE

An essential team member in ETRO Construction’s ability to win challenging and game-changing projects, the Senior Estimator acts as the critical eye on every detail of a project. Balancing client desires with cost efficiencies, the Senior Estimator is a self-starter with exceptional planning skills, able to make complex decisions with often limited information. With a role that spans numerous aspects of the business and is highly connected to sub-trades, communication becomes the Senior Estimator’s greatest strength as they navigate and create bids that win and relationships that foster meaningful, long term relationships with all key stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Here’s what you’ll get up to as the Senior Estimator:

  • Produces quantity take-offs for all areas of the estimate as directed, while ensuring the takeoff is well notated for hand-over to the project team and includes safety and security requirements required by ETRO policies and applicable legislation.

  • Develops complete estimates on selected projects consisting of project site visit, quantity take-off, pricing, and presentation of the estimate for management review.

  • Develops the schedule on which the estimate is built based, requests input from the project team and the various trades required.

  • Contacts trades and suppliers regarding invitations, pricing, addenda and tender/bid closings.

  • Provides guidance for non-estimating personnel on their estimating related requirements.

  • Provides technical training to subordinates and members of the Estimating team.

  • Is actively aware of costs related to own work and associated projects, provides input to the project team on all financial cost matters.

  • Reviews bid / tender documents for scope of work development and assesses potential risks.

  • Interfaces and communicates effectively (written and oral) with the estimating team, with all levels of management, clients and industry contacts; contacts and develops business relationships with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing within estimates.

  • Implements and maintains ETRO systems and procedures in relation to estimating.

  • Assists in the selection and maintenance of subcontractors within a database.

  • Performs general administrative and recordkeeping functions.

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

On top of your passion to work in a growing business full of professionals in the trade, here’s what we’re looking for:

  • 8+ years in estimating and related construction experience with a diverse project portfolio with experience in Multi-Family Residential and Ground-Up Commercial construction. Knowledge in Tenant Improvements is also an asset. 

  • University Degree in Engineering/Construction Management or Technology Diploma.

  • Ability in creation of conceptual estimates, budget estimates, order of magnitude estimates, and hard tender estimates.

  • A developed technical knowledge of modern construction practices, techniques and equipment.

  • Proficiency in and understanding of construction documents with the ability to assess their completeness.

  • Complete comprehension and experience with tendering, scoping and bid leveling of Construction Divisions 2 through 16.

  • Knowledge of construction costs and budgets, ability to develop project schedules.

  • Expertise with Takeoff Software, On-Screen Takeoff or similar estimating software.

  • Experience with G-Suite, and MS Office with a primary basis in Google Sheets. 

  • Knowledge of BIM modeling, Revit, AutoCAD, LEED and Passive House is an asset.

Salary range
