Breaking Ground

Kicking Off First West Credit Union

Excited to announce we’ve broken ground on our biggest project to date: the new First West Credit Union offices being built in Langley, BC. FWCU is furthering their commitment to the province, the economy and the community with this $100 million investment through the construction of this health and well-being conscious regional office. On June 25th, First West Credit Union along with their construction partners—ETRO Construction, PCI Developments, Omicron Design & Construction and MCMP Architects—officially broke ground on the project that will feature seamless access to public transit, a fitness centre, outdoor patio, a ground floor public plaza as well as access to a pedestrian pathway. The building will total 130,000 square feet, with First West occupying more than 60,000 square feet of office space for 320 employees. The remaining square footage will feature retail and additional leasing space which will allow other local businesses to grow and create job opportunities. More to come on this exciting build soon!

The Campbell Residences Are Ready for the New Buildings

CR Infill_cam01_Final_.jpg

The Campbell Residences, located at 13th & Yukon, is an eight-unit residential project spread over four buildings, and is ETRO’s second heritage project to date. Keeping things exciting, this project featured an intricate relocation of the two existing heritage homes within the site prior to adding two new infill homes along the back lane. With the help of the veteran house movers at Nickel Bros and site services subcontractor, Octiscapes, the relocations went off without a hitch.

This project also marks the first time that ETRO will be self-performing significant scopes of work, working hands-on on both the formwork and framing of the heritage and infill homes. Although there have been significant challenges with the existing conditions and stringent City of Vancouver requirements for modifying heritage buildings, our site team of experienced carpenters and framers has done an excellent job keeping the project moving and on schedule while design issues are resolved. Keep up the great work team!

Team Spirit

Beans n’ Jeans

Double denim for the win. The annual Capilano Rugby Club Chili Cook-off was held to raise money for the Club and the youth programs it supports. The 5 teams competing came on theme and in costume, ready to wow the judges with their unique flavours and chili-making skills. Showing up 5 people strong—3 chili aficionados and 2 loyal fans—we were robbed of the Best Chili throne by an extremely low margin by our neighbour, Hillbilly Chili, in a blind taste test from the 3 local judges. Yes, we came second in the chili cook-off but we placed 1st in the theme and presentation categories. The Beans n’ Jeans team is looking forward to dialing in that chili recipe in order to secure all 3 titles for 2019!

Hats Off Day

The Festivities

On June 2, ETRO Construction joined in to celebrate Hats Off Day, where businesses in The Heights ‘take their hats off’ to their community and customers and celebrate together. Well over 50,0000 people take to the streets between Boundary to Gamma, shutting down the road to vehicles for the day of festivities.

With construction size Jenga, golf pong and painting birdhouses for the kids, ETRO had the opportunity to connect with the community.

On top of the public events, this year ETRO hosted a private family and friends BBQ. As our office has grown tremendously in the last year, it was great to meet all the new faces that support our ETRO family.
Mike, Hrv and their boys got to jump on the Burnaby Fire Department’s truck and join in the parade. Back at the tent, a crowd gathered to watch a nail-biting jenga competition between Tony Pasqualini and Marko Djokic, where the winner is still to be determined.

Thank you again to everyone who helped make the event a huge success, with a special shout out to Marko and Jeff Laing for manning the BBQ so we could fill our bellies.

Looking forward to next year where the “ETRO” float will make its debut in the parade. We’ll be holding a competition for the design and theme – bring your ideas to the table and win a prize!

Dead Last No More

What was supposed to be a decent soccer team looked like a freight train trying to win a race against a Formula One. But now, the boys in black look more like a sky train from the Expo years, and are finally building up some momentum. Is it the World Cup? Is it the warm June nights? Or is it just the fact we have added some real talent to the team? I guess we may never know for sure. Whatever it is, the team is now tied for 4th spot (or 5th, depends on the way you look at things) in a division of 5 teams and are looking to carry the positive momentum into the playoffs. One thing is for sure: the team and all the people who come to watch the games have a great time. Join in on the good times; please come out and support the boys in black!
